HAZELWOOD MINE FIRE INQUIRY DELIVERS VOLUME II OF ITS 2015/16 REPORT TO THE GOVERNOR OF VICTORIA

Today the Hazelwood Mine Fire Inquiry handed Volume II of its 2015/16 report to the Governor of Victoria, Her Excellency the Honourable Linda Dessau AM, at Government House in Melbourne at 8.30am.

The second volume of the report is the culmination of the Inquiry’s investigation into Term of Reference 6, which tasked the Inquiry with identifying whether the Hazelwood Mine Fire contributed to an increase in deaths, having regard to any relevant evidence for the period 2009-2014.

The Board of Inquiry expressed their gratitude to the people of Latrobe Valley for their participation and hospitality in the process.

‘We know this issue has been of great interest to the people of the Latrobe Valley, we thank them for their efforts and contributions to the Inquiry and their patience during the development of this report’, said Chair Bernard Teague.

From 8 December the Inquiry will be holding public hearings into Terms of Reference 8, 9 and 10 relating to mine rehabilitation. The public hearings will be held at the Latrobe Performing Arts Centre, Traralgon.
