HAZELWOOD MINE FIRE INQUIRY DELIVERS VOLUME III OF ITS REPORT TO THE GOVERNOR OF VICTORIA

At 8:30am this morning Hazelwood Mine Fire Inquiry handed Volume III of its 2015/16 report to the Governor of Victoria, Her Excellency the Honourable Linda Dessau AM, at Government House.

The third volume of the report delivers short, medium and long-term opportunities to improve the health in the Latrobe Valley. The report, which responds to Term of Reference 7, has been developed through community consultation, written submissions, and a series of health improvement forums, which were held in the Latrobe Valley.

“This report brings together the thoughts and hopes of a great many people and organisations from across Latrobe Valley, including the health services, the council and most importantly the community. We hope that it leads to action to improve health in the Latrobe Valley.’ said Board Member Professor John Catford.

He added “we wish to thank all those people who attended our health improvement forums, everyone participated with a spirit of cooperation and enthusiasm, and for that we are grateful.”

The fourth and final volume of the Inquiry’s report, relating to mine rehabilitation, will be handed to the Governor of Victoria on 15 March 2016.
